MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Carbon Market Authority has developed and presented the National Carbon Policy Document to President Joseph Boakai.

The document will be used as a working instrument in the coordination and management of all carbon emissions activities in the country.

The presentation was done on Tuesday, September 2, 2026, by the Chief Executive Officer of Carbon Market Authority, Jeannie Cooper.

Madam Cooper said:” The document represents a significant step towards the carbon market and trading, climate finance, among other issues surrounding the carbon industry”.

The process, according to Madam Cooper, followed a series of nationwide consultations and engagements involving forest communities, civil society organizations, and permanent stakeholders.

She underscored the importance of the document to ensure that Liberia gets its true benefits associated with the carbon market globally.

Meanwhile, President Boakai has welcomed the document, describing it as a major step towards Liberia’s carbon market.

He said: “The document will go a long way to ensuring that the country’s forest is protected and used to benefit the ordinary people”.

The President commended the Carbon Market Authority and all stakeholders who made the drafting and subsequent development of the document possible.

With this document, the Liberian Leader noted that the country stands to accelerate its efforts in the protection of its forests and other natural resources.

The National Carbon Policy is a comprehensive document that will guide the Carbon Market Authority in its efforts to reduce carbon emissions and protect Liberia against climate impacts and other natural phenomena.
