Chief Justice Gbeisay Orders Judicial License Plates on Private Vehicles Remove and Return

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Chief Justice of Liberia, Yamie Gbeisay, has ordered all judicial staff using Judiciary license plates on their private vehicles to return them with immediate effect.

Chief Justice Gbeisay said:” The idea that some institutions of government may be using GOL plates on private vehicles is not only wrong but also illegal”.

Justice Gbeisay also added that such an act is tantamount to defrauding the government of taxes, which is a criminal offense.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the Chief Justice stressed that the Judiciary cannot commit crimes and judge others for committing them.

He then ordered the transport section of the Judiciary to confiscate all such license plates from Judiciary staff who have not been assigned official vehicles.
