MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai says the national fight against drugs and organized crime is not directed at any individual, party, or political movement as being perceived in some quarters of the public.

President Boakai noted that the anti-drug campaign is directed at acts that tend to threaten the safety, stability, and future of the country.

The Liberian Leader reassured the citizenry and the international community that detained former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor is being treated in full compliance with the laws of Liberia.

Madam Howard-Taylor was arrested last week by the Liberia National Police and formally charged in connection with drug trafficking.

Addressing the nation on Wednesday, August 27, 2026, President Boakai reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of every citizen, including the former Vice President.

He then called on the public to remain calm and allow the legal process to play out.

Meanwhile, the government says it will remain impartial in the fight against drug trafficking and trans-national crimes in the country.

In adherence to this commitment, the government says it will not prosecute nor shield anyone because of political affiliation, office, status, or influence.

President Boakai underscored the importance of dispensing justice across all spectrums of society without being biased, selective, or undermining.

The Liberian Leader commended members of the Joint Security Team for demonstrating a high level of professionalism, courage, and devotion to national unity.
