MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has described the proliferation of drugs and illicit substances as a threat to national security.

President Boakai said:” The presence of those harmful substances in Liberia has, over the years, destroyed lives, fuelled violence, and weakened families”.

Addressing the nation on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, the Liberian Leader recounted progress being made by the Government of Liberia to tackle the prevailing menace, but noted that more needs to be done to curtail the issues.

President Boakai also wants political and religious leaders, civil society actors, and public commentators to remain true campaigners against violence and acts that undermine the nation’s democratic gains.

He said:” Liberia, as a country, has endured hardship, division, and conflict, yet Liberians continue to remain resilient and committed to upholding peace and the rule of law”.

Meanwhile, the Liberian Leader has called for a united fight against all forms of drug trafficking and trans-national crimes.

President Boakai called on parents, communities, schools, religious institutions, and traditional leaders to get actively involved in the fight against the menace.

The President maintained that if drug trafficking and trans-national crimes must be dismantled in Liberia, it requires the collective participation of all.

He noted that the campaign remains deliberate, coordinated, and unrelenting, emphasizing the need for misinformation as the fight against the menace continues across Liberia.
