MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia has secured a key role in efforts to strengthen Africa’s access to quality medicines and essential health products.
This followed the appointment of Liberia Medicines and Health Products Regulatory Authority Deputy Managing Director, Dr. Patricia Quaye-Freeman, to the Technical Working Group of the African Pooled Procurement Mechanism.
Her appointment follows a high-level consultation convened by the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention in Addis Ababa, involving representatives from fourteen African Union Member States.
According to a release, Dr. Freeman contributed to discussions through technical presentations on strengthening regulatory systems, improving procurement coordination and expanding access to quality-assured health products.
Dr. Freeman is expected to advance efforts to pool African countries’ purchasing power, increase procurement from African manufacturers, strengthen regional supply chains and improve access to affordable and quality medicines.
