MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Former Rivergee County Senator, Conmany Wesseh, has stressed the need for upholding justice and the rule of law if Liberia is to continue to enjoy the current peace.
Speaking to ELBC on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, Wesseh said justice and the rule of law are critical elements of sustaining the country’s peace, adding that any breakdown could render all other achievements irrelevant.
Wesseh’s comment comes as Liberia observes twenty-three years of peace since the signing of the Accra Comprehensive Peace Agreement on August 18, 2003, in Accra, Ghana.
The August 18, 2003 agreement involved the Liberian government, rebel factions, political parties, and civil groups that led to the exile of former President Charles Taylor, an immediate and permanent halt to all military hostilities, and the creation of a transitional government.
Wesseh, a former member of the Movement for Justice in Africa, has lauded Liberians and successive leaderships for ensuring the Accra Comprehensive Peace Agreement is still being upheld since it was signed twenty-three years ago.
