MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Mines and Energy has introduced a new Gold Traceability System to strengthen transparency and accountability in Liberia’s Gold Sector.

According to a release, the new regulations will take effect on October 1, 2026.

The Ministry says all licensed Classes ‘B’ and ‘C’ gold miners, dealers, and brokers must comply with the new requirements.

The release noted that the system is designed to improve oversight of the gold trade, combat illicit mineral trafficking, and align Liberia’s mining sector with international standards for responsible mineral governance.

The initiative will strengthen governance in the gold industry, improve traceability from production to export, and promote greater accountability in Liberia’s mining sector.

 Meanwhile, the Ministry of Mines and Energy has announced training sessions for licensed gold dealers and brokers, ahead of the implementation of the new Gold Traceability System.

According to a release, the training will focus on the proper use and completion of Gold Traceability Forms, which will become mandatory beginning October 1, this year.

The ministry is encouraging all licensed dealers and brokers to attend the training and cooperate with the new measures to ensure full compliance with national mining regulations.

The Mines and Energy Ministry further says its new Gold Traceability System is aimed at reducing illegal gold trading and improving regulation of Liberia’s mining sector.

The Ministry says compliance inspections will be carried out regularly by the Office of Precious Minerals and the Bureau of Mines to ensure participants are following the new rules.

They believe the system will improve the monitoring of gold from production to export, while strengthening confidence in Liberia’s mineral governance.

The ministry is calling on all licensed miners, dealers, and brokers to fully comply with the new regulations as the country works to promote responsible mineral development and greater transparency in the Gold Sector.
