Forestry Dev. Authority, Partners to Recognize Wonegizi Forest in Lofa County

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Forestry Development Authority (FDA) and partners are advancing discussions to recognize the Wonegizi forest in Lofa County as a protected area.

The engagement, which began in 2012 with members of the would-be affected communities in Lofa and other stakeholders, has reached the national level.

On Thursday, August 7, 2026, the FDA and partners held a national information session on the legal recognition of the Wonegizi proposed protected area to gather inputs, concerns, and recommendations from community members and stakeholders.

During the session in Monrovia, FDA Managing Director Rudolph Merab re-echoed the importance of conserving a portion of the Liberian forest for better livelihoods and future generations.

He assured members of the would-be affected communities that when the Wonegizi forest is protected, they will benefit from its conservation.
