LOFA COUNTY, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has reaffirmed the Government of Liberia’s commitment to advancing infrastructure development across Liberia.

President Boakai said,” Addressing Liberia’s infrastructure challenges remains a key priority under the government ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development”.

The Liberian Leader made the remarks at the dedicatory ceremony of the Gbarnga-Salayea Road Corridor on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, in Bong County.

He said the project marks another defining moment in Liberia’s journey of renewal and transformation.

President Boakai extended deepest appreciation to the Arab Coordinating Group, the OPEC Fund, the Saudi Fund for Development, and the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development for their financial support towards the completion of the project.

According to President Boakai, the project also demonstrates genuine partnership, mutual trust, and a shared commitment to what development can achieve.

At the same time, the government of Liberia has broken ground for the construction of the Salayea-Konia and Zorzor-Yeala road projects.

Construction works are to begin soon, targeting major towns and villages along the designated highway.

During the ceremony, President Boakai urged the contracting firms to implement the project in a transparent and accountable manner.

President Boakai then called on Liberians, especially citizens in the targeted areas, to take ownership of the road project.

The government, on the sidelines of the program, also signed crucial financing agreements for the proposed road construction.

Meanwhile, the Superintendent of Bong County, Hawa Norris, has described the Gbarnga-Salayea Road project as a symbol of hope, progress, unity, and the determination of leaders to improve the lives of the people.

Superintendent Norris also highlighted the historical significance of the road, emphasizing it as a fulfilment of a long-held national aspiration.

She noted that the road is expected to improve access to essential services such as education and healthcare and enhance the overall well-being of the community.

Madam Norris also underscored the significance of the road to improving regional integration, bringing communities closer to each other, and fostering a sense of unity.

The Bong County Superintendent said,” The completed road corridor will open new opportunities for growth and development, benefiting generations to come in Bong and Lofa Counties”.

Also, the Ministry of Local Government has lauded President Joseph Boakai for the progress made in connecting the country through road construction.

The ministry said the eighty-one-kilometer road project will improve the socio-economic fabric of Bong and Lofa Counties.

The ministry’s position was conveyed by its Deputy Minister for Local Government and Decentralization, Edward Mulbah, at the dedication of the Gbarnga to Salayea Road Corridor.

According to Deputy Minister Mulbah, the presence of the completed road corridor will also facilitate trade, create jobs, and meaningful opportunities for citizens of both counties and beyond.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Public Works, Roland Giddings, has put the cost of the completed project at approximately fifty-one million US dollars.

Providing an overview of the project, Minister Giddings noted that active construction works began in June 2018, with support from the Saudi and OPEC Fund, among other partners.

He re-emphasized the importance of the road corridor to connecting communities, improving transport and expanding citizens’ access to basic social services.

The Public Works Minister said,” The project, which is ninety-nine percent completed, was built in consideration of best infrastructural materials for the safety of the public and citizens”.

Minister Giddings then appreciated President Joseph Boakai for being committed to delivering tangible results that aim to drive economic growth and sustainable development nationwide.

For his part, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Yin Chengwu, has emphasized the importance of infrastructure investments in Liberia, highlighting that better roads improve connectivity, facilitate trade and lower transportation costs.

Ambassador Yin said,” The completion of the project reflects the Liberian government’s efforts to serve the people and advance the agenda for inclusive development”.

The Chinese Envoy reiterated that the inauguration of the project is a demonstration of China-Liberia friendship and cooperation with longstanding relations based on mutual respect.

He attributed the completion of the road to the Liberian government’s confidence in Chinese enterprises and their professionalism, technical expertise and commitment.

The Chinese Diplomat then encouraged more Chinese enterprises to operate in Liberia, emphasizing the importance of market principles and international business practices.
