MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Scores of residents of New Kru Town, Bushrod Island, Montserrado County, have benefited from free health outreach from the Liberia Chapter of the West African College of Physicians (WACP).
The team provided health awareness education, medical check-ups, and free medication to community members.
The outreach forms part of activities marking the 50th Anniversary celebration of WACP Liberia Chapter.
Speaking over the weekend in New Kru Town, WACP Liberia Chapter Chairperson, Dr. Musu Duworko, said” The event reflects the institution’s commitment to promoting quality healthcare and improving public health across the country”.
Dr. Duworko disclosed that the free outreach witnessed a turnout of over seven hundred people, while stressing that its jubilee celebration serves as an opportunity to strengthen its partnership with communities.
At the same time, a Public Health Expert, Dr. Augustine Fannieh, has underscored the importance of regular blood pressure screenings as a critical step in preventing serious health complications.
Dr. Fannieh identified several factors that can contribute to high blood pressure, including stress, unhealthy diets, aging, physical inactivity, excessive alcohol consumption, and family history.
He also encouraged residents of the area to adopt healthier lifestyles by eating balanced diets, engaging in regular physical exercise, reducing salt intake, avoiding tobacco use, limiting alcohol consumption, and managing stress.
According to him, these preventive measures can significantly reduce the risk of hypertension and other non-communicable diseases, while improving the overall health and well-being of the population.
