MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has called for stronger international partnerships and increased investment to accelerate universal access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy.
Speaking at the United Nations High-Level Political Forum in New York recently, Mines and Energy Minister Matenokay Tingban said the government’s ARREST Agenda places energy at the center of national development.
Minister Tingban said: Liberia has increased national electricity access from 32.7 percent in 2024 to 38 percent in 2026, through investments in renewable energy, rural electrification, and strategic partnerships”.
He also disclosed that Liberia has achieved nearly 80 percent of its first-year electricity connection target under the Mission 300 Energy Compact, which aims at increasing electricity access to 75 percent by 2030.
Minister Tingban urged development partners, financial institutions, and the private sector to help close an over 1 billion financing gap needed to achieve universal energy access.
At the same time, Liberia has identified more than one thousand megawatts of renewable energy potential as the Country seeks greater investment to strengthen its energy sector.
Minister Tingban said: The government will launch its first National Clean Cooking Strategy to provide clean cooking solutions to 200,000 households by 2030”.
The Minister noted that achieving universal energy access requires stronger global partnerships, technology transfer, technical assistance, and innovative financing.
Minister Matenokay Tingban said every new megawatt added to Liberia’s electricity network brings another community out of darkness.
