MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Mines and Energy and the Compact Delivery and Monitoring Unit (CDMU) have held their first quarterly Mission-300 Energy Compact Steering Committee meeting to review progress on Liberia’s energy goals.
The meeting brought together officials from the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC), Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC), Rural and Renewable Energy Agency, and other key stakeholders to discuss achievements and challenges in implementing the compact.
Mines and Energy Minister Matenokay Tingban said:” The Steering Committee serves as an important oversight body to ensure coordinated implementation and improve collaboration among institutions”.
According to a release, about fifty percent of planned activities are in progress, while renewable energy generation has exceeded the national target.
The Committee pledged to continue meeting every quarter to monitor progress and speed up implementation.
Meanwhile, Liberia’s Energy Sector stakeholders are calling for stronger government support to expand clean cooking solutions and improve electricity access across the country.
Stakeholders reported significant progress in expanding electricity services, with the LEC achieving 80 percent of its target to connect 100,000 new household in 2025.
The Corporation also highlighted improvements in revenue collection, efforts to combat electricity theft, and increased financial transparency.
The meeting also noted that Liberia’s first Independent Power Producer Projects are expected to begin this year, a move expected to increase private sector investment in the country’s Energy Sector.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister for Energy, Charles Umehai, said the government will continue working with partners to improve energy access for all Liberians.
