MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Ministry of Commerce and Industry says strengthening entrepreneurship and improving the competitiveness of Liberian-owned businesses remain key priorities of the government.
Commerce Minister Magdalene Dagoseh emphasized the need to equip Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) with digital skills to enhance their participation in the global marketplace.
Speaking Friday at the observance of World MSME Day in Monrovia, Madam Dagoseh said digital knowledge is essential for business growth and long-term sustainability.
She disclosed that the Ministry has undertaken several initiatives aimed at supporting local enterprises, including the establishment of a business registry, mentorship programs, and technical assistance services.
According to the commerce minister, MSMEs remain a vital component of the government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development and continue to contribute to economic expansion.
Madam Dagoseh reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to creating an enabling and affordable business environment that will support the growth of enterprises across the Country.
Also speaking, Executive Member of the Liberia Chamber of Commerce, Jefyne Togbah, described small business owners as major contributors to the country’s revenue.
Madam Togbah said entrepreneurs continue to make significant progress despite limited opportunities and inadequate business tools.
Delivering the keynote address, she called on the government to provide entrepreneurs with the tools and financial support needed to grow their businesses.
Madan Togbah also urged companies across the country to invest in MSMEs, saying such support will strengthen Liberian-owned businesses and improve their competitiveness on the international market.
This year’s observance of World MSME Day was held under the theme: “Empowering Liberian MSMEs Through Innovation, Digital Transformation, and Inclusive Growth.”
