MONROVIA, LIBERIA- First Lady Katumu Boakai has broken ground for the construction of a new Maternity Hospital in Duport Road, Paynesville, aimed at improving maternal and neonatal health.
The construction of the modern health facility is a result of collaboration with the Africa West Area Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Ministry of Health.
Speaking at the program, First Lady Katumu Boakai highlighted the Duport Road Clinic’s historic community service and stressed that the new Maternity Hospital will stand as a beacon of healing that will grow and benefit generations.
The Liberian First Lady recounted that the initiative began with the vision to provide safer deliveries and better healthcare for women and Children.
She commended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for its generosity and faith, which contributed to the project’s success.
Meanwhile, the Head of the West Area Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Elder Adeyinka Ojediran, emphasized that the project is not just a construction, but a beginning of a mission to save lives and strengthen families.
Elder Ojediran said the project, co-funded by the church, will feature over a hundred beds, an Intensive care unit, delivery suites, laboratories, and operating theaters.
He said the project is part of a broader effort to support communities through educational development, emphasizing the church’s commitment to humanitarian work, driven by faith and the example of Jesus Christ.
The Latter-Day Saints Elder regional President then expressed gratitude to partners and appealed for community involvement in safeguarding and using the facility responsibly upon its completion.
At the same time, Health Minister Dr Louis Kpoto expressed gratitude to the President and First Lady for their visionary leadership in the initiation of the project.
Dr Kpoto highlighted First Lady Katumu Boakai’s contributions, including the upgrading of maternal health facilities in her role as champion for maternal and child health.
The Health Minister thanked the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for their persistent efforts in ensuring the project’s progression.
Dr Kpoto pledged her personal commitment to completing the project before the end of her tenure, considering the project a dream come true.
The health minister then lauded all health workers for their dedication and hard work over the years.
