MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government is expected to launch the Gabriel Tucker Bridge to Freeport Road Rehabilitation Project with funding from Japan on Friday.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information’s regular press briefing on Thursday, Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah said President Boakai is expected to lead the groundbreaking ceremony for the 1.9-kilometer road project.
Minister Piah said the road will connect the Gabriel Tucker Bridge and Freeport, improving traffic flow and transportation.
He said the project will include road elevation, drainage systems, and flood-control measures.
Meanwhile, the Minister said the project is expected to be completed within 26 months.
At the same time, Information Minister Jerolinmek Piah says the government has increased electricity generation through investments in hydro and solar energy.
Minister Piah said the restoration of a damaged turbine added 22 megawatts to the national power grid.
He said a newly commissioned solar farm is also producing 20 megawatts of electricity.
The minister said the additional power has reduced Liberia’s dependence on imported electricity.
He said plans are underway to further expand both solar and hydroelectric generation capacity.
