The Governments of Liberia and the Democratic Republic of Congo have identified key areas of bilateral cooperation to strengthen the partnership between the two nations.
The areas include natural resources, trade and investment, peace and security, healthcare, education, and regional integration, among others.
The commitment was made during a high-level meeting in Monrovia between Liberia’s Foreign Minister, Sara Beysolow Nyanti, and her Congolese counterpart, Thérèse Wagner, who is on a working visit to Liberia.
During the talks, Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow-Nyanti reaffirmed Liberia’s dedication to Pan-African solidarity and the shared vision of a peaceful, prosperous continent.
Minister Nyanti emphasized the importance of exchanging expertise in post-conflict reconstruction and sustainable development, drawing from their respective national experiences.
She noted that the visit reinforces the historical bonds between the DRC and Liberia and paves the way for enhanced people-to-people connections and economic cooperation.
Meanwhile, DR Congo’s Foreign Minister Thérèse Wagner highlighted the significance of the visit to Liberia during a time when both nations are serving on the UN Security Council.
Ambassador Wagner emphasized the historic opportunity to leverage their tenure to promote international peace and sustainable development, focusing on issues such as natural resources and climate change.
She also underscored the strong ties between the DR Congo and Liberia, established since 1966, as well as the shared African aspirations and experiences.
The DR Congo Foreign Minister spoke to ELBC after the high-level engagement with Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti on Tuesday at the Foreign Ministry in Monrovia.
Ambassador Wagner said the visit aims to solidify existing bonds and work together on global agendas, particularly in the context of the Security Council’s mission to protect international peace.
