GRAND CAPE MOUNT COUNTY, LIBERIA-The Minister of Education, Dr. Jarso Jallah, has emphasized tourism as a key driver of Liberia’s economic growth, citing the country’s vast coastline potential.
Speaking on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at programs marking the groundbreaking of the Robertsport Hospitality and Tourism Training Center, Minister Jallah said the project will empower young people.
The education minister added that Robertsport attracts visitors for its beaches and surfing, but benefits remain limited due to inadequate skills and service gaps.
She stressed that development depends not only on international support, but also on Liberians ensuring accountability, proper use of resources, and sustained commitment.
The Minister noted that strengthening vocational education and private sector partnerships is essential to help young people translate acquired skills into sustainable employment.
Meanwhile, the Senior Advisor to President Joseph Boakai, Augustine Konneh, has described the tourism training center as a foundation for Liberia’s new chapter of inclusive growth.
Speaking on behalf of President Boakai, he said,” The Youth Rising Project Phase Two Shifts young people from passive observers to active participants in Liberia’s economic transformation efforts”.
Konneh expressed appreciation to the EU, noting its continued investment strengthens technical education, builds human capacity, and supports Liberia’s long-term development agenda.
He highlighted Liberia’s 350-mile coastline, emphasizing plans to expand tourism infrastructure, stimulate economic activity, and create sustained employment across coastal communities.
The Senior Presidential Advisor urged young people to embrace the opportunity, stressing that the center represents a training ground and a pathway toward national growth and prosperity.
At the same time, Grand Cape Mount County Senator, Dabah Varpilah, says the construction of the center is a pathway for sustainable youth development and national growth.
Senator Varpilah noted that the project will equip young people with practical skills and create employment opportunities.
The Grand Cape Mount County Lawmaker added that youth development remains a key government priority, emphasizing the need to better prepare young people for future leadership roles.
She highlighted ongoing projects, including road rehabilitation and a power substation, noting visible progress demonstrates the government’s commitment to transforming Grand Cape Mount County.
Senator Varpilah urged residents to embrace the initiative, stressing that its success depends on community ownership, participation, and youth fully utilizing the opportunities being provided.
