MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Media practitioners in the country have been urged to take a more proactive role in promoting awareness on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) following a one-day dialogue organized by the Amplifying Rights Network (NRN).
The gathering brought together journalists, bloggers, and influencers to strengthen reporting and public engagement on sensitive health issues.
Speaking at the event was ARN Secretary Madam Hawa C. Wilson. highlighted stigma and inadequate data as major barriers affecting SRHR advocacy and reporting.
She said, “The media has the power to shift narratives, encourage informed discussions, and help communities better understand their rights, especially in a society where such topics are often misunderstood or overlooked”.
Also speaking, Antoinette Wright, a member of ARN, revealed that a survey conducted by the Amplifying Rights Network indicates that about seven hundred and forty-two mothers die, out of every one thousand live births, underscoring a high maternal mortality rate in the country.
The dialogue also featured a panel discussion with Winnie Saywah-Jimmy, Managing Editor of Inquirer Newspaper; Lela Dolo; and Varnetta Freeman, an Independent Media Expert, who served as panelists and shared insights on improving SRHR reporting in Liberia.
