Dujar University Graduates Urged to Be Resilient…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A Liberian health professional, Dr Philip Davis, has challenged graduates of Liberia Dujar University College in Barnesville to remain resilient as they prepare to confront the realities of the country’s healthcare system.

Speaking over the weekend at the graduation ceremony of 29 students from the institution’s health programs, Dr Davis emphasized that resilience remains a critical trait for success in the medical field.

“Resilience is key for you to remain focused and to meaningfully contribute to Liberia’s healthcare delivery system,” he told the graduates.

Dr Davis expressed confidence in the preparedness of the graduating class, noting that they are well-equipped and better positioned to serve as professional nurses.

He further urged them to demonstrate discipline, sacrifice, and commitment in their service to the nation.

“You must serve with dedication and help transform Liberia’s health sector into a more viable and responsive system,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dr Davis used the occasion to call on the Government of Liberia to improve the salaries and benefits of health workers, particularly nurses.

He noted that nurses remain the backbone of the healthcare system but continue to face poor compensation and challenging working conditions. “Despite their critical role, nurses are still underpaid.

This must change if we are serious about building a strong and effective healthcare system,” he stressed.

According to him, improving wages and working conditions will not only motivate health workers but also enhance efficiency and productivity across the sector.

Dr Davis described current earnings for many health workers as inadequate and urged the government to take swift action.

At the same time, the President of Liberia Dujar University College, Reverend Nathan Mahteh, made a strong appeal to the Government to include the institution in the national budget.

Rev. Mahteh said such support would significantly boost the college’s expansion efforts and improve learning conditions.

“Government support will go a long way in helping us address the many challenges we face,” he said.

He pointed out that reliance on tuition alone is not sufficient to meet the growing needs of the institution.

To address some of its immediate challenges, the university has announced plans to launch a fund drive to complete its auditorium project.

Rev. Mahteh disclosed that proceeds from the initiative will also be used to address other critical needs of the college.

“This initiative is crucial to strengthening our infrastructure and improving the quality of education we provide,” he added.
