MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia has called for a focused and well-supported United Nations peacekeeping mission in South Sudan to address the country’s rapidly deteriorating political, security, and humanitarian situation.
Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti underscored the need for the UN Mission in South Sudan to concentrate on its core mandate of protecting civilians, facilitating humanitarian access, and supporting peace processes.
The Liberian Foreign Minister was speaking in her national capacity in support of an A3 statement during the Security Council’s briefing on South Sudan recently.
Drawing on Liberia’s own post‑conflict experience and lessons learned from peacekeeping transitions, Minister Nyanti emphasized that effectiveness must guide future UN Mission in South Sudan operations.
The Liberian Foreign Minister reiterated Liberia’s commitment to African solidarity and constructive engagement within the UN Security Council to advance stability and protect civilians in South Sudan.
