Liberia Nat’l Police Terms as Unfounded Allegations by Former Monrovia City Mayor

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia National Police (LNP) has termed as unfounded allegations levied against it by former Monrovia City Mayor, Jefferson Koijee.

Koijee, in his communication to the U.S. Embassy, recently accused the LNP of systemic torture, collaboration with drug cartels, and politically motivated violence, among others.

But Police Spokesperson, Sam Collins, said,” The allegations are unsupported by evidence and inconsistent with ongoing reforms and international cooperation efforts to strengthen professionalism and accountability”.

He highlighted that the author of the communication has himself been sanctioned by the U.S. Government for actions, including undermining democratic processes and abuse of public office.

Col. Collins reaffirmed the LNP’s commitment to professionalism, human rights protection, the rule of law, and transparent engagement with both the public and international partners.
