Liberia’s Criminal Court ‘C’ Issues Writ of Subpoena to Two Ex-Military Officials…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Criminal Court ‘C’ has issued a Writ of Subpoena to two ex-military officials from former President George Weah’s administration, to testify in the ongoing corruption case involving former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah and four others.

Those subpoenaed are former Defense Minister Daniel Ziazkanh and former Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), Prince Johnson.

The writs for the two ex-military officials were triggered by a request from prosecuting attorneys and were later granted by Judge Ousman Feika, consistent with the law.

ELBC Judicial Reporter said,” State Prosecutors’ request is seeking to establish guilt of the indictees beyond a reasonable doubt, since they joined issues with the State Lawyers in 2025 with a ‘Not guilty’ plea, consistent with Chapter 25, Section 25.5 of the Criminal Procedure Law of Liberia.

The ex-military officials are to appear in court on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, by 9 am in connection with Judge Feika’s writs.

Legal pundits say the ex-military officials, pending testimonies to the Court, will be key for prosecuting lawyers, after the indicted officials claimed that they used the amount in question for joint security operations.

At the same time, Theophilus Larmie of the Central Bank of Liberia and Tenneh Brunson of the Ministry of Finance appeared in Court on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, as subpoena witnesses for the State.

The two officials’ testimonies to the Court accused defendant Tweah and others of not following the proper procedure when they obtained the amounts from the government’s account, which led to their indictment.

Defendant Samuel Tweah and four others are facing criminal prosecution for multiple offenses, ranging from money laundering, economic sabotage, and theft, among others.
