MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia’s Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Teyak Sackie Moore, has called for more sustainable investments to build a resilient Health Sector.
According to Dr. Moore, the country’s Health Sector is being confronted with many challenges, including limited funding, emerging threats, and weak early warning systems.
The Acting Chief Medical Officer, who is also the deputy Health minister for Health Services, spoke on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at programs marking the commemoration of World Health Day in Monrovia.
He said,” Despite these challenges, Liberia remains committed to advancing scientific progress in the Health Sector”.
Dr. Moore also outlined progress made in immunization, maternal and child health, and disease surveillance systems across the country.
Meanwhile, the Officer-In-Charge of the WHO Regional Office, Dr. Sule Abdullahai, has stressed the need for a One Health approach to tackle health threats across the sub-region.
Dr. Abdullahai called on governments and partners to support research and build a stronger Health Sector.
According to him, investing in science and innovation is critical to improving health systems across Africa.
Speaking on behalf of the World Health Organization Regional Director, Prof. Mohamed Yakubu Janabi, Dr. Abdullahai highlighted Africa’s role in Ebola vaccines, COVID-19 detection, and local vaccine production.
