Pres. Boakai Emphasizes Gov.’s Pursuit of Peaceful Resolution to Liberia-Guinea Border Dispute

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Baoakai has emphasised that the Liberian Government’s pursuit of a peaceful resolution to the Liberia-Guinea border dispute is not a sign of weakness, but rather a demonstration of strength.

President Boakai noted that security institutions, including the army, police, and other joint security agencies, remain vigilant and professional in carrying out their duties.

The Commander-In-Chief of the Army also noted that the joint security is working closely with local authorities and communities to maintain calm, while diplomatic efforts continue.

President Boakai expressed appreciation to regional and international partners who have reached out in recent days to encourage restraint and peaceful engagement.

He said,” Liberia is a peaceful nation, and the government will do everything within its power to protect and preserve the nation’s peace”.

Meanwhile, President Boakai says the government will continue to rely on diplomacy, dialogue, and the mechanisms of regional cooperation to address the Liberia-Guinea border dispute in Lofa County.

According to President Boakai, Liberia has always been a nation that stands firmly for peace, and as such, the government remains dedicated to addressing the dispute responsibly and without conflict.

He said throughout the nation’s history, it had maintained cordial relations with its neighbours, and has consistently chosen cooperation over confrontation.

Speaking to the nation on Wednesday, March 19, 2026, on the Lofa-Guina border situation, the Liberian Leader noted that the people of the three border countries share deep cultural, family, and economic ties that must always be preserved.

Similarly, the President called on all Liberians not to engage in spreading unverifiable information that could undermine diplomatic and other efforts to resolve the impasse amicably.
