The lady known by many in Liberian football as “Iron Lady” Madam Rochell Woodson has announced her interest to contest the lone Women Seat at LFA Executive Committee in next month’s Football election.

Madam Woodson who has served on the LFA Executive Committee in the past says women football hasn’t been pushed at an appreciable level at the local Football parliament. This she said she wants to change with rigorous advocacy and lobbing.

The Ravia Angel Boss said she has the experience and has been well tested for a return to the LFA Executive body. Madam Woodson said her return to the LFA EXCOM will help strengthen the level of professionalism and give more priority to women football discussion at the Local football parliament.

She told reporters at the weekend that she cannot contest the LFA Presidency this year because she supports the re-election bid of Mustaphai Raji, declaring to contest as president of the LFA in 2030.

If her candidacy goes through, she will be seeking to unseat current women representative Madam Jodie Marian Reid-Seton, a lady Rochell campaigned for to be elected to that women seat eight years ago.

When asked if Jodie hasn’t done well for re-election, Madam Rochell Woodson said, “I can’t say Jodie hasn’t done well. She has done a great job, but I think in election the seats are vacant and people can contest. I think it’s about time to be part of the team to ensure that women football gets better representation and ensure that some laws are enforced”. Madam Woodson clarified that there exists no bad blood between she and Madam Seton who is current LFA 3rd vice president.

Rochell’s declaration has since sparked debate amongst her critics and Raji’s. Some say her decision indicates that Mustaphai Raji will not be supporting several current ECs including the LFA 3rd Vice President’s re-election. To this, Rochell said she wants to see more women in LFA Executive Committee, pledging to support other women candidates. However, she said she didn’t want to compete with the others for the general seats, but want to be the women representative at the Football parliament.

With not many women expressing interest to contest for the only women seat, Rochell’s declaration has some sparked fuel into the race unlike previous time where Jodie Seton contested on white ballot.

Madam Seton will now have to come down the stairs and campaign to the 48 delegates to re-elect her to the women seat for a 3rd term.

Rochell Woodson isn’t just called “Irony Lady” of Liberian Football for nothing; but she has some magic that could help her penetrating the hearts of congressional members as she as done in past time for herself and other candidates including former LFA President Musa Bility. Rochell will be campaigning for Raji’s re-election for sure, but it’s not clear whether Raji will do likewise for her as insiders to the incumbent’s camp say the LFA President still consider maintaining his 3rd vice president. Pundits will now await reactions from Madam sector on whether she will be prepared to contest for the women seat against her friend.
