Liberia Revenue Authority Transitions from Goods, Services Tax to Value Added Tax

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) says it is transitioning from the current Goods and Services Tax to Value Added Tax (VAT).

The new tax compliance aims to boost domestic revenue, broaden the tax base, and enhance efficiency by taxing goods and services at every stage of production and distribution.

Speaking to ELBC Friday, Officials of LRA said,” The change forms part of a broader, long-term effort to strengthen Liberia’s revenue performance and promote self-resilience”.

The officials disclosed that VAT will take full implementation on January 1, 2027, while a transitional period will begin from July to December 2026 for registration.

They also highlighted that the Value Added Tax provides transparency and accountability to all businesses across the country, assuring LRA’s strong commitment to better Liberia’s tax system.
