Education Minister Stresses Need for Prepared, Ethical Leadership in Liberia

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Education Minister, Dr. Jarso Jallah, has emphasized the need for prepared and ethical leadership in Liberia, saying national development must be driven by competence and integrity rather than improvisation.

Dr. Jallah made the statement while delivering the keynote address at the graduation ceremony of the 13th Cohort of GONET Academy, where more than 900 professionals from diverse sectors completed leadership and professional development programs.

According to the education minister, while Liberia has expanded access to education, true progress should be measured by what learning produces, including critical thinking, productivity, and institutions that function effectively and earn public trust.

She urged the graduates to remain lifelong learners, maintain focus, and uphold integrity in their professional lives, noting that knowledge without integrity is dangerous and that real leadership is demonstrated through principled actions, even when no one is watching.

Dr. Jallah praised GONET Academy for its role in leadership development and reaffirmed the Ministry of Education’s commitment to partnering with the institution to strengthen human capital.

She also encouraged the graduates to see themselves as a leadership pipeline for Liberia’s future.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of GONET Academy, Mohammed Kerkulah, says the graduation of Cohort 13 marks five years of intentional action.

CEO Kerkulah recalled that GONET was founded in February 2021 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when many young people had talent but lacked access, structure, and relevant opportunities.

He noted that the institution started with limited resources but a strong commitment to empower people, strengthen institutions, and contribute meaningfully to Liberia’s social and economic development.

According to him, the institution has grown into a nationally recognized center of excellence, training thousands of professionals across all fifteen counties with a strong focus on inclusion and market-relevant skills.

Mr. Kerkulah emphasized that GONET Africa’s next phase will prioritize quality, expanded access, stronger partnerships, and the development of ethical and competent leaders committed to national service and transformation.
