Nat’l Legislature Passes Bill to Change Internal Affairs Ministry…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-A bill seeking to replace the Ministry of Internal Affairs with the Ministry of Local Government has been passed by the National Legislature.

The passage of the bill is a step towards the full implementation of the Local Government Act of 2018.

Montserrado County Senator, Abraham Darius Dillon, said the bill is currently before President Joseph Boakai for signature.

Senator Dillon said,” When signed into law, all those appointed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs would be subject to reappointment and confirmation hearing”.

He stated that the passage of the bill was in the spirit of decentralization and good governance.

At the same time, he has dismissed growing speculation about potential challengers for the Montserrado County Senatorial Seat in 2029.

Senator Dillon bragged about how contenders wanting to contest the county seat are intimidated by his political stature and electoral history.

In an ELBC interview recently, the Montserrado County Lawmaker expressed confidence in his political standing, suggesting that his continued occupancy of the seat has discouraged rivals from openly declaring their intentions.

Senator Dillon said,” My presence in the Liberian Senate has effectively derailed the ambitions of individuals who may be considering contesting for the seat”.

Senator Abraham Darius Dillon claimed that once he remains in the position, there is little incentive for others to contest, arguing that the silence of potential opponents is not accidental but a reflection of political fear.
