MONROVIA, LIBERIA-ECOWAS Resident Representative to Liberia, Josephine Nkrumah, and Liberia’s First Lady, Kartumu Boakai, have held a high-level consultative meeting to strengthen collaboration on women and youth in peace, security, and political leadership.
The discussions centered on advancing Liberia’s fundamental role as a Non-Permanent Member of the UN Security Council, to promote regional peace, security, and the critical agenda of women and youth in peace and security.
Women and youth in peace and security were two key messages of the campaign that Liberia defended in its candidacy for a non-permanent seat at the UN Security Council.
Both sides explored synergies between Liberia’s international diplomatic commitments and ECOWA regional frameworks to reinforce policies that promote gender equality and youth inclusion, particularly in the sphere of political participation and leadership.
One of the main focuses of the meeting was the upcoming Regional Consultation on Political Participation and Leadership of Women and Youth in West Africa.
The event, organized by the ECOWAS Gender Development Center and partners, is expected to be held from February 10 to the 14, 2026, in Accra, Ghana.
According to a dispatch, the strategic consultation is a cornerstone of the Legacy Project/Commemorative Project 50, the ECOWAS Anniversary on Gender Parity in the Elected Bodies of ECOWAS Member States (2025-2035).
The projects aimed at consolidating the achievements of the Community in democratic governance, while laying the foundation for a regional framework that promotes equal opportunities for women and men in the political sphere.
