The 29th edition of the government run national county sports meet got off on a promising note for the kickball and football defending champions at the weekend.
Lofa county opened the defense of their title with a 3-1 victory over Group C hosts, Grand Bassa County in Buchanan.
Watanga striker Darious Garmondeh scored a brace in his debut for Lofa county, while young Anthony Taylor added a 3rd.
In the same group, Grand Cape Mount county held on to beat Grand Gedeh 2-1 in a tight fixture.
Group A hosts, Maryland County came from behind twice to force Grand Kru County to a 2-2 draw at the Martha Tubman Stadium in Harper.
Siaka Baryo and Albert White scored for Grand Kru, before Delton Kollie and Ezekial Tamba cancelled out with the equalizers respective.
Rivercess were out classed by Rivergee 2-0 in the group’s second game played on Sunday.
In Group B, hosts Nimba started off on a promising note beating the underdogs, Sinoe County 3-0, with Nimba new boy James Tarpeh getting on the score sheet.

Before that match, Margibi proved supreme over Bomi County, winning 2-1, thanks to Terry Kollie who saved a late Bomi penalty.
Group D campaign begun in a draw, as the first female to coach a male soccer team in a competitive football competition in Liberia, Famata Dean led Montserrado County to force a 2-2 draw against hosts Gbarpolu county.

In Kickball, Kickball champions, Grand Bassa county begun the defense of their title with a 3-1 home-run victory over former winners Lofa county at the Doris Williams stadium.
Before that fixture, Grand Cape Mount whipped Grand Gedeh 3-0 home runs.
In Group A, Rivergee recorded the biggest win in the first round of group matches by beating Rivercess County 4-0 home-runs, with all the home-runs being scored in the first inning.
Hosts Maryland and Grand Kru counties finished their opener in a 0-0 home-run draw.
Group B hosts, Nimba county were 3-0 home-runs winners over Sinoe County, as Bomi fell to Margibi County 2-0 home-runs.
Gbarpolu defeated Montserrado 1-0 home-runs in group D.
The campaign will continue on Wednesday with round two actions.
