Pres. Boakai Commissions over Thirty Modern TATA Buses

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai has officially commissioned over thirty modern Tata buses, as part of enhancing the country’s public transport sector.

Speaking at the dedicatory ceremony in Monrovia on Thursday, November 13, 2025, President Joseph Boakai reiterated the government’s dedication to improving the overall livelihood of the Liberian people.

President Boakai said,” Providing the citizens access to affordable and quality services is the surest way to cater to the needs of all Liberians”.

The Liberian Leader believes that prioritizing the welfare of the ordinary people remains key to building an inclusive society that works for all.

He admonished Liberians to get involved in the development process of the country, noting that Liberia’s progress must be the responsibility of all citizens.

President Boakai made the remarks at the dedication of several modern buses for use by the National Transit Authority in Gardnesville.

Meanwhile, he described the dedication of the buses as the beginning of an era of development at the NTA.

President Boakai said the coming in of the buses will not only enhance the operations of the entity, but will also address the transportation constraints of ordinary people.

The Liberian Leader said the NTA, the government-owned public transport sector, has been logistically challenged, but with dedication, such challenges are being addressed.

He lauded the efforts of the NTA Management and ABK Inc. for leading the procurement process.

For his part, NTA Deputy Managing Director for Administration, Melvin Cephas, said the arrival of the buses signifies the management’s commitment to revamp public transport services.

Cephas added that the buses, following approval from the requisite government authorities, were procured in collaboration with ABK Incorporated.

He reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to supporting the government’s ARREST Agenda through improved services and revealed plans to bring in five cargo trucks to ease farmers’ transportation challenges.

Meanwhile, Mr. Cephas disclosed that a new administrative building, valued at over five million USD, is under construction and is expected to be dedicated by July next year.

At the same time, Transport Minister Sirleaf Tyler has urged staff of the NTA to take ownership of the newly commissioned buses and ensure they are properly maintained for the benefit of the public.

Minister Tyler commended the government’s vendor, ABK Inc., for the procurement of the modern TATA buses.

He described the procurement as a major boost to Liberia’s transport sector.

Speaking at the dedication ceremony, Minister Tyler said, “The ongoing digitalization effort by the NTA Management will enhance revenue generation and promote transparency in operations”.
