2026 Draft Budget Sees Significant Increment In Sports Budget….

Sporting federations in Liberia have every reason to smile as the government increases financial support for sports in the 2026 draft national budget.

The 2026 draft national budget sees an increase in the budgets of several sporting federations.

The draft budget announced Monday by the  Ministry of Finance and Development Planning Minister, Augustine Ngafuan, football was allotted $1.07 million US dollars, moving from five hundred fifty thousand us dollars.

The Chess sport saw a significant increase in its budget, moving from five thousand United States dollars to fifty thousand United States dollars.

The 2026 draft budget allocates thirteen thousand nine hundred fifteen us dollars to the Liberia Kickball Federation, moving the Federation from five thousand us dollars.

Basketball also sees a significant increase in its budget, with an allocation of twenty-two thousand seven hundred twenty us dollars.

The draft national budget allocates ten thousand United States dollars to the Tennis Federation, while Track and Field is allotted two thousand United States dollars.

There was no increment for the staging of the National County Meet, with the competition allotment remaining at four hundred thousand United States dollars, while the Liberia National Former Players Association is allotted twenty-five thousand United States.

Meanwhile, Track and Field pundits have hailed the government for the increase in the sports budget, describing it as a good move.

They, however, think there is a need to re-look at the Track and Field budget, as track and field is one of the federations that is actively representing Liberia on the international stage and making a huge impact.

The recounted gold and silver medals Liberian Track athletes Joseph Fahnbulleh and Ebony Morrison won for the country last year at the African Athletics Championship.

Other sports stakeholders in football have also hailed the move.

Minister of the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, Augustine Ngafuan, announced a draft budget of 1.2 billion United States dollars for the fiscal year 2026.
