The Youth and Sports Ministry has set November 14 as the date for the formal dedication of the new floodlights at the Samuel Kenyon Doe Sports Complex.
The ceremony will take place during the night hours, as the Ministry wants to test the floodlights.
The Sports Ministry says kickball and football matches will form part of the floodlight’s dedication.
The 2024/2025 National County Sports Meet Kickball Champions, Grand Bassa County, will take on Montserrado in the kickball match.
The football match will take place between the current National County Sports Meet football champions, Lofa County, and the highest winners of the competition, Nimba County.
The Minister of Youth and Sports, Cllr. Jeror Cole Bangalu disclosed that the new floodlights restoration project at the SKD is valued at approximately 500,000 United States Dollars.
Youth and Sports Minister Cllr. Bangalu said this achievement represents another milestone in our ongoing efforts to enhance Liberia’s sporting infrastructure and create a more vibrant atmosphere for athletes and fans alike.
The New lights are about 1200 Lux and are estimated to last between 15 and 20 years if maintained properly.
The Greenfield Electrical Engineering Company, a leading international provider of electrical engineering solutions, carried out the installation of the floodlighting system at the Samuel Kanyon Doe (SKD) Sports Complex.
The installation means that night football could return to the SKD, which is considered the examination hall of Liberian football.
It is widely believed that with the installation of the floodlights, the 2025/2026 National County Sports Meet final rounds could take place at night.
A testing of the floodlights took place Friday evening, with many from Paynesville City watching.
