Roaming Elephant Reportedly Kills Two Persons in Gola Konneh District, Grand Cape Mount County

GRAND CAPE MOUNT COUNTY, LIBERIA-Two persons believed to be hunters have been reportedly killed by a roaming elephant in Gola Konneh District, Grand Cape Mount County.

The bodies of the two individuals were discovered over the weekend, after a search operation by residents in the district.

Our correspondent said there have been reported incidents of elephants invading the homes of citizens in the district for years and destroying crops.

The situation has left residents of the district living in fear.

Our correspondent quotes the Grand Cape Mount County Superintendent as calling on the Forestry Development Authority (FDA) and state securities to come to their aid.

In another development, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has declared a “no-go zone” for residents of Jikano, a community close to the Bea Mountain Mining Company area in Kinjor.

In May this year, the community experienced a spill of chemicals in their water, a situation that prompted action by the EPA, declaring the area a “no-go zone”.
