Grand Gedeh University Students Union Presents Petition to Gov., Calls for Sup. Grant’s Removal

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Government of Liberia has officially received the petition statement from the Grand Gedeh University Students Union (GGUSU), calling for the removal of Superintendent Alex Grant of Grand Gedeh County.

The petition, presented at the Executive Mansion on Monday, November 3, 2025, outlines several concerns raised by the students, including issues of alleged mismanagement and poor leadership in the administration of Superintendent Grant.

Reading the statement on behalf of the group, the President of GGUSU, Thomas Neah, allegedly withheld the county’s 2024 budgetary allotment of thirty thousand US Dollars meant for students, and undermined education in the county.

Neah also accused Superintendent Grant of illegally leasing five hundred acres of ancestral land to a Burkinabe national without community consent.

He described the alleged act as a violation of the 2018 Land Rights Act and a step to their cultural heritage.

Meanwhile, the Grand Gedeh County University Students Union has listed key demands, including Superintendent Alex Grant’s removal, the release of alleged withheld funds, a national investigation into the land lease, and the appointment of a new Superintendent.

Receiving the statement on behalf of the Government of Liberia, the Deputy Internal Affairs Minister for Research and Development Planning, Edward Mulbah, lauded the students for conducting themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner.

Minister Mulbah commended their decision to channel their grievances through a democratic process.

He assured the petitioners that the government will review their concerns with urgency and respond in the shortest possible time.

Minister Mulbah noted that the government remains committed to upholding transparency, accountability, and effective local governance across all counties, including Grand Gedeh.

The Deputy Internal Affairs Minister also highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Liberia’s democratic image on the international stage.

Minister Edward Mulbah emphasized that peaceful engagement and dialogue are the most effective means for citizens to address national and local issues.
