Nat’l Port Authority, ArcelorMittal Sign Five-Year Agreement…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Port Authority (NPA) and ArcelorMittal-Liberia have signed a five-year agreement to increase the company’s use of the Port of Buchanan.

The Managing Director of the NPA, Sekou Dukuly, said,” As part of the agreement, NPA is expected to generate a little over two million US dollars annually.

Addressing a news conference on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, in Monrovia, Dukuly said ArcelorMittal-Liberia will use the Port of Buchanan to transfer its iron ore to a bigger vessel on international waters.

He, however, clarified that the money that will be generated by the NPA from the deal is not part of the taxes ArcelorMittal is currently paying to the national government.

Meanwhile, the National Port Authority is expected to launch its Strategic Plan on Monday, October 27, 2025, at the Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Congo Town.

At the same time, the NPA Managing Director has urged the Chair of the Senate Sub-Committee on Revenue to lead efforts for increased budgetary support to State Owned Enterprises.

Sekou Dukuly’s call was in response to Senator Gbehzongar Findley, who, during an ELBC interview on Monday, October 20, 2025, threatened to subpoena the bank statements of SOEs.

Dukuly stated that, contrary to claims that the NPA is intentionally refusing to contribute its fair share to the budget, the entity is undertaking major reforms with huge financial costs.

According to him, the NPA would be capable of contributing more of what is required if members of the National Legislature provide the necessary support through the budget.
