Liberia Joins Other Countries to Commemorate World Contraceptive Day 2025

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia has joined other countries in commemorating World Contraceptive Day 2025, as the Ministry of Health (MOH), through its Family Health Division, amplifies calls for increased access to modern contraceptives.

According to a Health Ministry release, this year’s observance underscores the importance of reducing teenage pregnancy, empowering girls to stay in school, and highlighting the critical role of family planning in lowering maternal and newborn deaths, and contributing to national economic growth.

The release noted that day is marked annually on September 26, as a global campaign dedicated to raising awareness about the wide range of contraceptive options available, including abstinence, so that women, men, and adolescents can make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health.

To commemorate this year’s event, the release further stated that the Family Health Division at the Health Ministry is rolling out a series of awareness and outreach activities, including Radio Talk shows, to increase public awareness and address myths and misconceptions around family planning.

Others include family planning outreaches and counseling services at youth-friendly centers to reach adolescents and young people with accurate information and services, and community engagements with leaders, parents, and stakeholders to promote supportive family planning practices.

The day has been observed under the team” A Choice for All, Freedom to Plan, Power to Choose”.
