Blackman Warriors Kiss Goodbye To CAF Confederation Cup Painfully….

Liberia Football Association Orange Cup Winners Blackman Warriors have been eliminated from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Cup in the preliminary rounds.

Blackman Warriors suffered a 4-1 humiliation on Friday to Cotton Sport of Benin in the return leg of their Confederation Cup preliminaries.

The match took place in Lome, Togo, as Benin does not have a qualified stadium at the moment.

Coton Sport took the lead in the 10th minute, before adding another 12 minutes later to finish the first half 2-0.

The home side pushed for further goals in the second half, pressing the Warriors harder.

That pressure, plus poor goalkeeping, worked well for Coton Sport, who increased their goal tally to three in the 79th minute.

They finished off the Liberian club in the 90th minute with a 4th goal from nowhere.

Blackman Warriors were allowed to get a consolation at the dying seconds of the match to end their debut appearance in the Caf competition on a 4-1 goal aggregate defeat.

The first leg ended 0-0 at the SKD Sports Complex in Paynesville City last Sunday.

The Warriors had traveled to Togo for the return leg, disjointed following the 0-0 draw in the first leg.

The players grew bitter after that match and boycotted camp, demanding game bonus that wasn’t available.

That was compounded by news of the resignation of team coach Sam Chebli, who resigned an hour after the game on Sunday.

Authorities of Blackman Warriors had to swiftly step in to appeal to the coach and players to rescind their decisions, as the away match was crucial.

Meanwhile, Blackman Warriors have reacted to the defeat by saying it was a wonderful experience.

“Coach Sam Chebli and his boys gained valuable experience from their debut on the continental stage and will now shift their focus to the LFA First Division League, which kicked off in October,” said a Blackman Warriors’ statement.

The LFA Orange Cup winners will now return home to switch their focus on the upcoming LFA 1st division league, which kicks off next month.

But before that, Blackman Warriors will travel to Gompa City in Nimba County to face off against FC Fassell in the LFA Super Cup.
