Liberian Football Champions FC Fassell entertained fans and their visitors to a 0-0 draw in the Soccer Missionaries first Caf Champions League appearance at the Samuel Kenyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville.
The match was the first leg meeting between the two in the preliminary round of the 2025/2026 TotalEnergies Caf Champions League.
The home team dominated the match in the first chapter, failing to finish off chances that came their way.
Ezekiel Koon, Delton Kollie and Ndene Cisse were thorns in the flesh of the visitors but just could not find the back of the net.
MC Alger had deployed a delay tactics after observing FC Fassell in the first quarter of the match. That worked out well for them as their coach praised his boys for the result in Paynesville on Saturday.
FC Fassell had the best of the game chances, but failed to pass the Alger’s goalkeeper.
FC Fassell had rallied Liberian football fans to turn out in their numbers to cheer the home team to victory. This was yielded to by scores of football fans who came out at the SKD to give support to FC Fassell.
The match was FC Fassell’s second appearance in continental competition, haven competed in the Caf Confederation Cup preliminary rounds 2016.
Just before the match, FC Fassell CEO, Cassell Kouh had predicated a 3-0 win for his side following their preseason training in Egypt which he described as successful.
FC Fassell will now have to work harder for the win away in Algeria next week if they are to progress to the next round of the Caf Champions League.
