Liberia’s Nat’l Fisheries and Aqua-Culture Authority Introduces First Semi-Industrial Fiberglass Fishing Vessel

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The National Fisheries and Aqua-Culture Authority (NaFAA) says it has introduced the first semi-industrial fiberglass fishing vessel in Liberia, known as “Sea King”.

According to NaFAA, the vessel, which officially set sail on September 17 this year, comes following the implementation of the World Bank-funded Liberia Sustainable Management of Fisheries Project.

A NaFAA release is quoted as saying, the “Sea King” vessel was designed and built by SeaPride Marine Engineering LLC, in Sur, Oman, and received by Liberia’s “FV Sea King”, marking a major achievement for both countries.

SeaPride Marine Engineering Managing Director, Mohamed Ameen, described the building of the vessel as a testament to the skill and innovation of Oman’s Marine Engineering Sector, adding that the move will open new doors for international partnerships.

Meanwhile, the NaFAA says the introduction of the new vessel to Liberia aligns with the Government’s commitment to promote responsible fisheries and ensure the sustainable management of marine resources.
