Chinese Embassy Hails House Speaker Koon’s Address to Nat’l People’s Congress of China

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Chinese embassy in Liberia has welcomed remarks made by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Koon, when he addressed members of the National People’s Congress (NPC) of the People’s Republic of China.

According to a release from the Chinese Embassy, the commendation of House Speaker Richard Koon was made following the meeting with the NPC on the margins of the 2025 Legislators Forum for Friendly Exchanges in Beijing, China.

Underscoring the theme of the Forum, “Building Global Partnership for Joint Advancement of Common and Sustainable Development,” Speaker Koon called for stronger parliamentary unity, cooperation, and coordination to articulate a shared agenda that fosters inclusive growth and prosperity.

Speaker Koon expressed appreciation for China’s continued interventions in Africa, highlighting investments in education, Agriculture, Infrastructure, TVET, and trade relations.

The release said he particularly commended the construction of two annexes at the Liberian National Legislature, and the recent groundbreaking of Liberia’s first-ever overhead bridge valued at USD 30 million, as tangible demonstrations of China’s commitment to Liberia’s development.

According to a dispatch, Speaker Koon praised China’s remarkable economic growth and global impact since its reforms of 1978, calling on the NPC to support struggling parliaments worldwide in building their institutional capacities as part of a global parliamentary network initiative.

The release said that from this backdrop, China pledged its continuous commitment to strengthening parliamentary exchanges and supporting sustainable development in Liberia.

The release assured continued bilateral relations between the two countries for the advancement of shared goals of peace, prosperity, and mutual growth under the China-Liberia strategic partnership.
