MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The UN Regional Director, Dr. Maxime Houinato, has commended the Government of Liberia for the policies and legislations put in place to address the needs of women and girls in Liberia.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, July 22, in Monrovia, Dr. Houinato stated that the Liberian Government has demonstrated its potential on the international stage as a country that knows what it wants in securing a seat as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Dr. Houinato added that throughout his visit to Liberia, he has noticed significant changes in policies and legislation that the government has made, which has sparked a spirit of hope in many people.

However, he also stressed the common women’s agenda, which brings women together suffering from the same challenges in society, daily.

The UN Regional Director said women’s movements should be non-governmental, but not anti-governmental.

During the Press briefing, the UN Women Regional Director expressed his profound gratitude to the government and partners for the reception, while recognizing the work the government is doing to elevate the issues of women and girls.
