War and Economic Crimes Court, Transitional Justice launch National Outreach Campaign….

MONROVIA, LIBERIA- The Office of the War and Economic Crimes Court (OWECC), in collaboration with Transitional Justice, has launched the National Outreach Campaign.

The outreach is designed to engage citizens and promote public understanding of the Court’s mandates and Liberia’s Transitional Justice roadmap.

Speaking at the program over the weekend, the Executive Director of OWECC, Cllr. Jallah Barbu lauded members of the TRC, whose report serves as the guiding principles for the establishment of the Court in Liberia.

Cllr. Jallah Barbu also expressed gratitude to President Joseph Boakai for seeing the need to enforce the recommendations of the TRC.

He noted that the President’s decision indicates his commitment to upholding the constitution of Liberia and promoting genuine reconciliation.

Cllr. Jallah Barbu rallied the collective efforts of all Liberians to support the establishment of the War and Economic Crimes Court to ensure justice for the victims of the civil war.

At the same time, the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) has endorsed the work of the office of OWECC and the National Anti-Corruption Court for Liberia.

PUL President Julius Kanubah said, “The PUL is resolved to join the National Outreach Campaign aimed at expanding public understanding and engagement about the work of OWECC”.

Mr. Kanubah added that the campaign represents an important milestone in elevating and entrenching the conversations and activities leading to the establishment of the OWECC.

He called on the public, international partners, media, and government to support the work of OWECC.

The PUL President said support to OWECC by the government, through the Executive and Legislative branches, must not only be in words but in concrete moral and financial resources.
