House of Rep. Passes Landmark Bill…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The House of Representatives has passed a landmark bill seeking the establishment of the River Gee Community College.

The bill’s passage followed a report from the House’s Joint Committees on Education, Public Administration, and Judiciary.

The bill was sponsored by River Gee County District-One Representative Alexander Poure, who believes that the creation of a local community college will provide greater access a higher education for the country’s youth.

Representative Poure noted that River Gee’s strategic location and growing population make it ideal for a tertiary institution, which would address challenges faced by students in gaining a college education.

He lauded the support of his colleagues for the swift passage of the bill, describing it as a bold step toward empowering young people through education.

The bill has now been forwarded to the Liberian Senate for concurrence.

At the same time, Nimba County District-Four Representative Ernest Menseah has introduced three key bills aimed at enhancing local governance and development in the country.

The bill seeks to establish the City of Garplay in the Twah River Administrative District and create the Townships of Soe Senlay and Zoe Siaplay in Nimba County.

Representative Menseah said, “The creation of these local administrative units will promote effective governance and bring the government closer to the people.”

He emphasized that, based on the population and economic potential of the areas, granting them city and township status would also contribute significantly to the national revenue envelope.

The Nimba County Lawmaker has since reaffirmed his commitment to lobby for the passage of the bills to attract meaningful development to the area.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has mandated its Committees on Internal Affairs, Judiciary, Ways, Means, and Finance to review the proposed legislation and report to the plenary.
