Pres. Boakai Urges Citizens to Reject Forces of Division…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-President Joseph Boakai is urging citizens to reject forces that divide the nation and embrace peace and unity.

President Boakai also encouraged Liberians to choose peace over vengeance, unity over discord, and progress over stagnation.

According to him, Liberia envisions to be built as a nation where the legacy of leaders is honored with truth, respect, and accountability.

The Liberian Leader made the call on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, in Monrovia, at the Memorial service in honor of former President Dr. William R. Tolbert and thirteen others who were executed decades ago.

President Boakai encouraged citizens, especially families of the former President and others to continue honoring their memories through purposeful contributions to national unity and healing.

The Liberian Chief Executive admonished the younger generation to view the life and leadership of President Tolbert as a symbol of faith, hope, and dignity in public service.

Meanwhile, President Boakai said,” The dedication of a Mausoleum in honor of former President Tolbert and officials killed during the 1980 coup is a national duty and an act of moral restitution. Remembering the painful chapters of Liberia’s history is essential to healing and building a more united future.”

According to him, the dedicatory ceremony is not just for those whose lives were taken, but a tribute to the democratic ideals for which they stood.

The Liberian Head of State noted that the memories of those killed will forever inspire the country’s journey toward a more just, peaceful, and accountable nation.

The ceremony, which took place at the Liberia Theological Seminary in Paynesville City on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, was attended by an array of dignitaries, including former President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor, First Lady Kartumu Boakai, and members of the National Legislature, among others.
