Ahead of the 2025/2026 National County Sports Meet, Grand Gedeh County has appointed former Rivercess County football team and Mighty Barrolle head coach, Christian Mehn, as head coach of the Grand Gedeh County football team.
Grand Gedeh County Sports Steering Committee appointed Christian Mehn as the new head coach of the Grand Gedeh County football team on Wednesday after the coach and the county authorities reached an agreement.
The Grand Gedeh County Sports Steering Committee said Coach Mehn was selected based on his experience in coaching for many years.
Coach Mehn has coached Rivercess County in many county meet editions, reaching them to the quarters.
He sat out the last county meet after feeling frustrated with the Rivercess county authority’s treatment of him and the players.
The Grand Gedeh County Sports Association (GGESA), along with Superintendent Hon. Alex Chersia Grant, confirmed the appointment of Coach Mehn on July 2, 2025.
Known for his tactical brilliance and leadership at Mighty Barrolle, Coach Mend is expected to bring a fresh, competitive edge to the county team, according to authorities.
“We believe in his experience and commitment. He’s the right man to lead Grand Gedeh to glory,” said GGESA officials.
There are mixed reactions across Grand Gedeh County over the appointment of Coach Mehn.
Coach Mehn is taking over from Zwedru-based Coach Thomas Boneybone Brownell, popularly called Coach Germany, who led Grand Gedeh County to the 2023/2024 National County Sports Meet final.
Grand Gedeh County finished as runner-up in that edition of the national county sports meet.
Grand Gedeh will challenge champions Lofa, Grand Bassa, and Grand Cape Mount in Group C in Buchanan City, Grand Bassa.
Coach Mehn is one of Liberia’s best grassroots football coaches. He has built a formidable grassroots football team in Tebeh Football Academy, which came close to qualifying for the LFA 2nd Division from the LFA Playoff.
