Liberia’s Ambs. to South Africa and Egypt Meet Mines and Energy Minister Paye…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Liberia’s Ambassador to South Africa and Egypt has held separate meetings with Mines and Energy Minister Wilmot Paye on exploring investment opportunities in the Mining and Energy Sectors.

Ambassador George Patten and Henry Fahnbulleh met with Minister Paye, respectively, at his Mines and Energy Ministry Office in Monrovia recently.

During their separate interactions, Ambassador Fahnbulleh, who will take up mission soon in Egypt, assured Minister Paye that the Liberian Embassy in Egypt will explore avenues for attracting Egypt’s investment interest in Liberia.

Ambassador Fahnbulleh also spoke highly of his diplomatic mission’s readiness to work collaboratively with the ministry in identifying potential mineral and energy possibilities in Liberia that Egypt can get involved with.

According to a Mines and Energy Ministry release issued, similar notes were exchanged between Minister Paye and Ambassador George Patten.

With South Africa being a significant player in the production of Platinum Group Metal, Gold, Diamond, and other minerals, Ambassador Patten told Minister Paye that his mission will capitalize on available opportunities in mining and energy.

Meanwhile, the Mines and Energy Minister highlighted efforts that the ministry made in reviewing and advancing proposal amendments to the Minerals and Mining Law of 2000, to reflect current-day realities.

Minister Paye informed Ambassadors Fahnbulleh and Patten that the ministry and sector institutions have reviewed and validated the National Energy Policy of 2009.

He added that the ministry has also strengthened compliance enforcement, ensuring that mining companies and those related to the sector operate by the law.

Minister Paye said:” Now that the ministry has succeeded in establishing country offices, access to services provided by the ministry will be decentralized to promote convenience and better monitoring and regulation regimes.”

He disclosed that the recruitment and hiring of the county mines officers, geologists, and environmentalists have been completed.

Minister Wilmot Paye told Ambassadors Henry Fahnbulleh and George Patten, the government has tremendously improved investors’ confidence and interest in the Mineral and Energy Sectors of Liberia, thus making the country a safe destination for trade and investment.
