Defense Lawyers Rep. Former Finance Minister Tweah, Others File Indictment Dismissal Motion…

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-Lawyers representing former Finance Minister Samuel Tweah and others on Monday filed a motion to dismiss the indictment drawn against them at Criminal Court ‘C’.

Defense Lawyers’ ten-count motion among other things, cited the 2011 Act creating the National Security Reform and Intelligence as their reliance to dismiss the indictment.

Section 3(f) of the 2011 Act states that every member, personnel, or employee of the National Security Council shall be deemed a trustee of the secret of the country.

According to them, the over six million US dollars for which they were indicted was for the use by National Security operations, and as such, coming to court to disclose any information would violate the Act.

The Defense Lawyers maintained that under said Act, they were exempted from criminal prosecution and prayed the Court to dismiss the indictment drawn against them as provided by law.

Their application for the Motion of Dismissal comes to the hearing of the proceedings at Criminal Court ‘C’, where some legal pundits described it as a delay to the Court.

As a result of their request, Solicitor General Cllr. Augustine Fayiah prayed for continuance granted by Judge Roosevelt Willie with the resumption of the case on Wednesday, February 26, 2025.

The five former government officials, Samuel Tweah, Cllr. Nuenti Tuah, Moses Cooper, Stanley Ford, and Jefferson Karmoh were charged with theft of property, and illegal disbursement, among others.
