Liberian Gov. to Shortly Begin 150 Hectares of Lowland in Nimba County

MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The Liberian Government is set to shortly begin the cultivation of one thousand five-hundred ninety-five hectares of lowland in Nimba County.

Agriculture Minister Dr. Alexander Nuetah said the government will provide the farmers with all necessary materials for cultivation of the targeted threshold.

Minister Nuetah, however, urged the people of Nimba County to take ownership of the initiative to help the government reduce the importation of the Country’s staple food, rice.

He said as a key component of the Government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development, agriculture needs a holistic approach to tackle hunger in Liberia.

The agriculture minister spoke Wednesday in Garplay, Nimba County when he met with the Flokwado Farmers’ Cooperative.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Dr. Alexander Nuetah has charged the administration of Garplay Public School to formulate what he calls a school garden proposal to support the agriculture sector.

The agriculture minister wants the instrument formulated and submitted to the Ministry for onward implementation.

Minister Nuetah believes the instrument, when formulated, will empower Garplay Public School and increase food production in Nimba County.

He, however, thanked the staff of the school for their continued commitment to providing quality education for kids in the County.

He spoke Wednesday when he met with the students and administration of the school.
