MONROVIA, LIBERIA-The House of Representatives says Representative Richard Koon is the legitimate Speaker invited to attend the inauguration of Ghana’s new President John Mahama.

Two letters from the Ghanaian Parliament have been circulating on social media in Liberia, addressed to both Representatives Fonati Koffa and Richard Koon, but Mr. Koonis the only Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Making the clarity on LNTV’s “Liberia Today” program on Monday, January 6, 2025, the Director of Communications at the House of Representatives, Robert Haynes, maintained that Richard Koon is the only Speaker of the House.

Director Haynes said:” Under the garble of Richard Koon as Speaker, the 2025 National Budget was passed, reaffirming his legitimacy as head of the House.”

The House Spokesperson said the Speaker will be accompanied by the House’s Chairpersons on Executive and Foreign Affairs, Sekou Kanneh and Nehker Gaye to John Mahama’s inauguration on Tuesday, January 7.

In a related development, Robert Haynes said the National Legislature is fully prepared to receive President Joseph Boakai for his Second State of the Nation Address, despite the recent setbacks at the Capitol.
